Shigella is an illness that is a lot more common than the majority of holidaymakers are aware of. In the past few years, there have been an increasing number of tourists who have contracted the illness in Egypt. UK laws regarding the

protection of holidaymakers were changed recently meaning that holidaymakers who contracted an illness that was the fault of a tour operator can now claim compensation.

Shigella Holiday Illness is a very unpleasant and can appear as 4 different types: flexneri; sonnei; dysenterai and boydii. It is an infection that attacks the large bowel. Common symptoms of the illness are persistent diarrhoea that can turn

bloody, weight loss, vomiting, abdominal pain and dehydration. In severe cases, the illness can lead to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Irritable Bowel Syndrome and kidney failure.

Shigella can be spread from one person to another quite easily. It only takes a small amount of bacteria to cause the infection. As well as the infection being passed on from person to person, it can also be caused when food is washed with

contaminated water.

In order to avoid contracting Shigella whilst on holiday in Egypt, it is advised that you avoid drinking bottled water or food from a restaurant that is prepared with local tap water. Only drink bottled water or tinned beverages. It's also

advised to only eat fruit that can be peeled, so that any infected skin from the fruit can be disposed of before the food is consumed. In addition, ensure that you wash your hands frequently, and that any children you have with you are doing

likewise.

It is not advised to take any medication to treat stomach upsets before you have been able to identify the cause of your problem. If you were to take medication before receiving an accurate diagnosis, the treatment may be inadequate and

lead to further problems. Antibiotics may be issued once you have been diagnosed with Shigella in order the prevent it from spreading and to decrease the duration of your Egypt Holiday Illness.

If have suffered from Shigella during your stay at a hotel in Egypt then you are now legally permitted to make a claim for compensation against your UK Tour Operator to cover for the lack of enjoyment and the suffering that you endured

during your time on holiday.

As soon as you arrive home in the UK, you can seek the help of a holiday claims firm who will work to get you the compensation your deserve for your Egypt Holiday illness. If possible, try to acquire the services of a firm who specialise in

holiday claims and who have staff members who have held previous employment at major tour operators.
