Egypt is a great holiday destination. It gives you the chance to visit fascinating historical landmarks, extraordinary landscapes and breathtaking coral seas. Unfortunately though, several holiday hotels in Egypt over the past 12 months in particular have been known for causing large outbreaks of food poisoning such as E.Coli and salmonella. It is a common trait that food and hygiene standards at these resorts were not acceptable.

Salmonella poisoning is one of the most common illnesses that holiday makers in Egypy fall ill too. It is a bacteria that can often be found in chicken and eggs, and can often be spread by pets and animals. The bacteria breeds fast after being ingested and destroys cells in the stomach lining.

Sufferers of Salmonella Holiday Illness usually experience frequent and unpleasant diarrhoea, high fever, persistent stomach cramps, and eye discolouration. Dehydration can worsen the symptoms. The loss of fluids can lead to lethargy, a dry mouth and dark urine.

The climate in Egypt can cause dehydration and cause danger for tourists, in particular young children and people with weak immune systems. The mixture of dehydration caused by the hot climate with vomiting and diarrhoea can lead to serious health problems such as kidney failure.

Salmonella in Egypt is often caused by poor kitchen standard in hotel resorts. It is often caused when food is uncovered and left to stand at room temperature. In some cases, foods such as meat and poultry can become contaminated before being cooked.

Rubbish and waste-food can supply salmonella bacteria with the perfect environment to multiply as it warms up. A common way for bacteria to spread inside a restaurant kitchen is through improper food handling. All food handlers must wash their hands with water and soap before and after making contact with different types of foods, and after using the bathroom.

If you experience any of the symptoms described above then you should seek medical attention promptly. If you are being treated by a doctor in Egypt then it may be worth checking how they will be treating you and what form of medication they will be providing. If you have concerns at all, then it's best to contact your UK GP. Should you still be ill upon your return home, ask you local doctor to take some stool samples so you can identify the source of your Egypt Holiday Illness.

If you are to develop an illness in like salmonella whilst on holiday in Egypt, you should make a claim against the UK tour operator as soon as you arrive home to the UK.
